Nondiscrimination/Title IX Statement

Seton Hall University does not discriminate on the basis of age, sex, gender, disability and/or handicap, race (including traits historically associated with race such as hair texture, hair type and protective hairstyles), creed, color, religion, national origin, nationality, ancestry, affectional or sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, pregnancy, breastfeeding, veteran status, marital status, domestic partnership or civil union status, status as a domestic violence victim, arrest status, AIDS and/or HIV status, atypical hereditary cellular or blood trait, liability for service in the Armed Forces of the United States, genetic information, the refusal to submit to genetic testing, the refusal to make available the results of a genetic test, or membership in any other class protected by state or federal laws, now or in the future, in any phase of its admissions, financial aid, educational, extra-curricular, athletic or other programs or activities, or in any aspect of its employment practices.

The University’s policies are in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations prohibiting discrimination, harassment, sexual misconduct, including dating and domestic violence and stalking, as well as retaliation. These laws include the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Amendments of 2008, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 (“Title IX”), Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 as amended by the Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972, and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination. The University reserves its right to administer and apply all policies, programs, and benefits in a manner consistent with its Catholic educational mission and the teachings of the Catholic Church.

The University is committed to providing a campus environment that is free of unlawful discrimination and harassment of its students, members of the Board of Trustees and Board of Regents, non-Trustee and non-Regent members of all committees of the Board of Regents or the Board of Trustees, officers, priests, faculty, administrators, staff members, employees, applicants, volunteers and other members of the University community, as well as our vendors, visitors, guests, all persons residing in University housing and other third parties. Indeed, members of our campus community must not be treated adversely based upon a classification protected by law or retaliated against for engaging in protected activity, such as filing a complaint or participating in the review of a complaint. 
In accordance with Title IX regulations, the University has designated Toni Hindsman as the University’s Title IX Coordinator. Ms. Hindsman is charged with overseeing compliance with the University’s nondiscrimination policies and Title IX.

Individuals with questions about any form of discrimination and/or Title IX, or who wish to report a violation, are encouraged to contact any of the persons or agencies listed below. In addition, any person may report sex discrimination, including sexual harassment (whether or not the person reporting is the person alleged to be the victim of conduct that could constitute sex discrimination or sexual harassment), in person, by mail, by telephone or by electronic mail by using the contact information listed below for the Title IX Coordinator and Deputy Title IX Coordinators, or by any other means that result in the Title IX Coordinator receiving the person’s verbal or written report. Reports can be made during non-business hours by mail to the listed office addresses or by using the listed telephone numbers or e-mail addresses. Inquiries about the application of Title IX may be referred to the Title IX Coordinator, to the Assistant Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education Office for Civil Rights, or both.
