Meditation: Craving - oil on panel, 8 x 8 inches
Professor Schiller is known for creating artwork from the imagery of food-related memories, associations and rituals. Her collection of recent paintings focus around the idea of religious and contemplative rituals, and their significance to a person's wellbeing. Particularly fascinating to Schiller is the concept of people using rituals as a method of coping with their purpose of being human. These paintings, created with oil on panel, focus on personal sacred spaces that people set up in their home to help them reconnect with their inner self.
I paint from displays of sculptures, photographs, candles, foods, offering bowls and other objects chosen for their symbolic meaning, especially focusing on the their groupings in the constructed environment of personal shrines and altars.
