Deirdre Yates

Deirdre Yates M.F.A, Interim Dean

The College of Communication and the Arts is a dynamic community where students, scholars, artists, theorists, critics, practitioners and professionals all thrive together. We offer new programs focusing on the 21st century digital culture, both on campus and online. Our goal is to inspire and enable students to lead, create and communicate with responsibility, passion and excellence.

Our focus is you and your goals. The college offers you excellent interdisciplinary opportunities and the flexibility to shape your college career to best suit your desired outcome. We house seven undergraduate programs: Art History; Art, Design and Interactive Multimedia; Broadcast and Visual Media; Communication; Journalism and Public Relations; Music and Theatre and four graduate programs: Museum Professions; Public Relations; Strategic Communication and MASCL (Strategic Communication and Leadership online). Additionally, you can add a minor to your resume with 13 choices or enter one of our three 3 + 2 programs enabling you to graduate in five years with a master's degree.

We have shaped our curriculum so that you will be primed for the job market and graduate a well-rounded and ethical Seton Hall alum. Our one-on-one advising allows you the personal assistance needed so that you can explore our many disciplines and still be focused to succeed.

We work with the Career Center and over 100 companies in the tristate area to engage our students in amazing internship opportunities focused around the media and culture capitol of the world, New York City. Our impressive alumni give back as mentors through CHAMP (Communication Honors Alumni Mentoring Program). This program is a wonderful introduction and bridge to the professional world.

The college values the experiential and service learning components of the educational experience and therefore affords our students a variety of hands-on opportunities both curricularly and through student organizations. Currently we are home to PRSSA, Theatre Council, Brownson Speech and Debate Team, Lambda Pi Eta (the Communication Honor Society), the Chamber Choir, Concert Band, University Choir, Jazz Ensemble, Touring Choir, Chamber Orchestra, UDesign, Pirate TV and WSOU Radio Station.

So take advantage of all we have to offer and get the hands-on experience that will prepare you for the best employment opportunities.

Study Abroad

To further enhance your educational experience, travel the world! Study Abroad courses have proven to enrich a student's knowledge base through cultural interaction and will give you a more comprehensive understanding of your discipline. Our courses can take you to Nicaragua, to Berlin, to Scandinavia, to London and to Ireland! Hop on board for a comprehensive learning adventure!

We're here for you

It's your passion, your calling and your future. This is your college and we are here to make your time at Seton Hall a rewarding one. We want to help you grow, both personally and professionally. Together let's make your SHU years the best we can.

If I, or a member of my office, can be of assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out. I look forward to seeing your name on my Dean's List every semester!

Hazard zet forward!
