Dr. Anthony SciglitanoFirst Faculty Retreat, Learning and Tradition: Passing on what is of utmost importance?
Directed by Dr. Anthony Sciglitano

Tradition can seem to bear upon us centuries of dead weight sucking the vitality from intellect and imagination. Yet Saint Paul associates tradition and the most profound of life-giving encounters in Christian belief. Perhaps tradition is best thought of as what one hands on of first importance. In this retreat, we will reflect upon how, precisely, “tradition” might be thought to serve learning not only about particular subjects, but just as importantly, about ourselves.

Anthony C. Sciglitano, Jr. is Chair of the Department of Religion and Director of the University Core Curriculum. His book on Hans Urs von Balthasar, Cross and Covenant: An Anti-Marcionite Theology of Religions, will be published in fall 2011.
