Seton Hall University welcomes strategic corporate partnerships. The University is an important pipeline for the metro area’s workforce, and coupled with our unique approach to corporate relations, we are well positioned to meet the needs of many different types of organizations in New Jersey and beyond. Corporate partners benefit from a concierge approach connecting them with Seton Hall’s myriad offerings including recruitment, meaningful volunteer opportunities for executives and employees, collaborative research, continuing education and professional training, and much more.
The University’s strategic partnership with Wiss & Company, a top NJ accounting and consulting firm, is worth highlighting. The firm has a team of 26 partners – six of whom are graduates of Seton Hall University. Among its nearly 200 professional staff members, several are Seton Hall alumni in various leadership positions.
“Seton Hall excels at working with the private sector to create value for our students, for employers and their employees, as well as for the community overall. We take multilateral engagement seriously and our recent partnership with Wiss & Company is a prime example,” said Lily Cabrera, senior director of Corporate and Foundation Relations.
Similar to Seton Hall, Wiss & Co. has a focus on servant leadership and a commitment to developing the whole person. The firm is regularly recognized for its community service and employee team projects for organizations ranging from Habitat for Humanity and the Community Foodbank to the Salvation Army and the American Heart Association.
The firm supports the mission and work of Seton Hall’s Stillman School of Business, recently becoming a corporate partner with a generous donation. In addition to the financial support, the firm has been involved with advancing academic and programmatic initiatives at the School.
“We are thrilled to embark upon this partnership with Wiss & Co., which we view as a true realization of our mission goal of ‘transforming concepts into business practice,’” said Joyce Strawser, dean of the Stillman School of Business. “This partnership allows us to strengthen connections with a number of our accounting alumni and tap into the industry intelligence and experience of a top professional services firm. We see this as a terrific win all the way around – for faculty, students and Wiss & Co. professionals.”
In particular, Wiss & Co. has presented to the Stillman School’s accounting club, offering career tips to help students advance professionally, as well as actual internship and full-time employment opportunities. Wiss leadership also has representation on the accounting advisory board at the School. In addition, members of the firm plan to participate in Stillman’s Practice Partner program in which a Wiss employee and faculty member team-teach a business course – providing students the unique opportunity to learn from a successful professional and a faculty member, combining the best of practice and theory.
“As a Seton Hall alumnus, it is an honor to embark on a partnership that supports active learning within the classroom setting. This opportunity will allow me to share personal and professional experiences that are applicable to future business leaders,” said Paul Peterson ’93, managing partner, Wiss & Company. “I am very much looking forward to helping shape our next generation, especially interacting with students from the same place that helped shape me.”
