B.A., Visual and Sound Media Curriculum

Undergraduate students in the Visual and Sound Media major must complete 42 program credits to satisfy degree requirements.  This major offers two concentration tracks: Media Studies, or Media Production. Both tracks must complete a program core consisting of 15 credits; the remaining 27 credits are specific to the chosen track, per below.

Students select courses each semester in consultation with his/her advisor and recommended study plan.

All Visual and Sound Media majors must take the following courses (15 credits):

Area Concentration:
All Visual and Sound Media majors must pursue a concentration in either Media Studies or Media Production.

Media Studies Concentration

Students with a Media Studies concentration must also take four courses from those listed below (12 credits):

Students with a Media Studies Concentration must also take:       

  • Two production courses (6 credits)
  • Media Studies Electives (6 credits).

Two more media studies courses or An internship and one media studies course

  • One of the following Senior Seminars (3 credits)

Students who wish to specialize in studio/field media production, digital cinema or sound production & engineering must take the following courses (12 credits per specialization):

Visual and Sound Media Minor

Students wishing to minor in Visual and Sound media must take 18 credits, as follows:

COBF 2212 Introduction to Visual Theory (3 credits)
COBF 2231 Electronic Age in America (3 credits) or COBF 2232 Evolution of Film Art (3 credits)

Three additional Visual and Sound Media courses (9 Credits) as approved by the area's academic advisor, must also be completed.
