Are the online programs accredited?
As a Seton Hall student enrolled in an online program, you are part of a dynamic Web-based educational program grounded in the history and tradition of Seton Hall University -- a more than 150-year old institution of higher learning and the oldest diocesan university in the United States. Seton Hall educates nearly 10,000 undergraduate and graduate students who hail from 40 U.S. states and territories and 58 foreign countries.
All Seton Hall University programs are regionally accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and many are programmatically accredited.
The online M.A., School Counseling program is approved by the New Jersey Department of Education. The online College of Nursing programs -- M.S.N., Nurse Practitioner; M.S.N., Health Systems Administration; and R.N. to B.S.N. -- are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The M.A. in Education, Leadership, Management and Policy is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

What is the admission policy?
There is no distinction in the admission policies for the online programs and their on-campus counterparts. Seton Hall is committed to providing the same thought-provoking and rigorous learning experiences with the online programs as it does with the on-campus programs. The only difference -- the delivery method.
Specifically designed for professionals with a demonstrated significant achievement in their respective fields, the online programs are perfect for those who have the ability, desire and dedication to accept the rigors of a fast-paced, challenging curriculum; balance the demands of myriad personal and professional commitments; and maintain high standards of integrity and productivity.
What is the average online program student retention rate, and how many students have graduated from the various programs?
More than 1500 students have received their Seton Hall University degrees through the online programs since we “opened our online doors” in 1998. The online programs show a higher than average retention rate than most traditional on-campus program. Our research shows that the high level of interaction; the formation of an intimate learning community through our “learning team” approach; the on-campus residency experience; and a program design that accommodates the mature, committed busy professional who can benefit from “anytime, anywhere” learning sets us apart from our competition.
What are the faculty’s qualifications?
Our national and international faculty are highly accomplished educators and experts. We engage professional practitioners and faculty members who have demonstrated significant achievements in their respective fields. Most of our online instructors are full-time Seton Hall faculty who have terminal degrees. All instructors meet the faculty qualifications established by Seton Hall University. Many faculty members are long-serving and long-standing members of the University community who have taught, and continue to teach, in Seton Hall’s traditional on-campus programs. Their knowledge of these programs allows them to create a seamless and dynamic online educational experience for their online students. We find the highly intensive and interactive nature of quality online education requires a higher faculty-to-student ratio than in the traditional classroom setting, so there is one faculty member to every 10 students.
What is the course content and how is presented?
Courses in the online programs offer the same rigor as their on-campus counterparts. The curriculum and course learning objectives of the online courses are identical to the on-campus courses and are aligned with an online format. With the online courses, delivery method of instruction, student-faculty and student-student interaction takes precedent.
What is the level of interaction between students and faculty within the courses?
The high faculty-to-student ratio (1:10) generates high faculty-to-student interaction. Course grading and student evaluation is not only based on written performance, but is also based on level of student engagement with faculty and other students in the class. Ongoing dialogue and the learning team approach --with students beginning and ending their program all together --results in an intimate community of learners that extend beyond graduation.
What is the on-campus residency requirement?
The online academic programs require two or three on-campus long weekend residency programs, depending on the program. These residencies provide face-time with peers and faculty. Students get to know one another and work together -- sharing backgrounds, professional experiences and career perspectives -- and, as a result, lifelong professional and personal networks develop.
The first residency takes place at the beginning of the program. This orientation residency is typically followed by a mid-residency (depending on the program) and is scheduled at the midpoint of the program. The final campus residency usually coincides with Seton Hall University’s Commencement Exercises, where students are conferred their Seton Hall degree.
Costs associated with the on-campus residency visits are included in the tuition, except the roundtrip travel expenses to and from the residency. Students generally are housed at a hotel adjacent to Newark Liberty International Airport and travel to and from campus from the hotel. All meals during the residency are provided.
