Learn how to solve complex problems faster, easier, and more efficiently in just three days.Seton Hall University is the only university in the Tri-State Area offering an introductory certificate program in Computational Thinking, a new discipline that represents a paradigm shift in problem solving, moving it from an instinctive process into the realm of conscious thought.

Program Description

Computational Thinking increases the speed, efficiency, and effectiveness of solving any type of problem – online or offline – through the use of digital tools and models.While Computational Thinking has recently been recognized by the National Science Foundation with $52 million in grants, only 5% of textbooks include reference to this emerging field.Thanks to Professor Marco Morazán, a Computational Thinking pioneer, this program is offered by Seton Hall University's Division of Continuing Education and Professional Studies.

Professor Morazán's Certificate in Computational Thinking is an introductory program for college graduates who seek a new approach for dealing with difficult and complex problems that require working with others to achieve a common goal.Though problems may vary, Computational Thinking models what once was abstract and creates a series of ordered steps that can be identified and analyzed.Each step has a specific result that brings you closer to solution.

Note: A rudimentary understanding of high school algebra is recommended.

  • Problem analysis (identifying and classifying types of problems)
  • Representations (turn abstract elements into models and simulations)
  • Creating a framework (the vehicle for expressing solutions)
  • Implementation and testing of variables

Marco T. Morazán is a graduate of the CUNY Graduate School where he obtained a Ph.D. in Computer Science.He is a leading expert in programming languages and Computer Science education with a broad international reputation.Dr. Morazán is a member of the steering committee of both the International Workshop on Implementation and Application of Functional Languages and the Symposium on Trends in Functional Programming.In addition, he is a co-founder of the International Workshop on Trends in Functional Programming in Education. Among his leading publications are articles addressing how to introduce beginners to Computer Science and to computer programming.
