What can a smartphone offer to learners of Chinese?

This article describes an experiment with integrating smartphones into a university’s introductory Chinese-language classroom. A summary of the use of the smartphone as a tool for teaching and learning is provided followed by the instructor’s observation and reflections as well as learners’ perception after a trial run. Finally, recommendations and suggestions are offered for further use.
