The purpose of this study was to add to the literature on the use of self assessment in the preparation of teacher candidates. It focused on teacher candidates’ performance in field placements by examining self-assessments and field evaluations conducted by their supervisors. The findings indicated that utilizing various forms of assessment is essential. Both consistencies and differences between supervisors’ rating and candidates’ self-assessments provided information as to how teacher candidates develop the knowledge, skills, and dispositions for teaching.
