After the Iron Curtain was lifted, Hungarian Midwives reached out to Dr. Leslie Iffy, Clinical Director of Women's Health Services at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ), to assist in the reorganization of Hungarian Midwifery. Dr. Iffy in return reached out to Professor Byrnes who collaborated with Teresa Marsico, President of the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACMN), in writing the two articles that outlined American nurse-midwifery policies and paradigms in providing care to women and newborns.
