Nina C. Capone, Ph.D., CCC-SLP
Associate Professor
Department of Speech-Language Pathology
I have been treating and studying children with communication and swallowing disorders for over 15 years.
Profile
In my research, I investigate the relationship between teaching word meaning and a child's accuracy in naming those words. I am also interested in the relationship between gesturing to communicate and language development.
My clinical experience has focused on evaluating and treating children between birth and 8 years of age, with extensive experience in pediatric dysphagia (feeding/swallowing disorders).
I also mentor the thesis projects of doctoral and MS students. Current thesis topics include: intervention of figurative language in children with SLI, gesturing in children who are bilingual, gesturing in children with communication disorders, and an exploratory investigation of pediatric feeding milestones.
I teach several courses that cover the following topics: language development, language and articulation disorders, early intervention, and pediatric dysphagia.
