As the Second Language Writing Coordinator, Dr. DasBender teaches, tests, places and advises matriculated ESL students.
I joined Seton Hall University's Department of English in 1999 and received my Ph.D. from New York University in English Education with an emphasis on Composition for ESL students in 2002. As the Coordinator for Second Language Writing, I teach, test, place, and advise students for whom English is a second language. I have taught freshman English (ENGL 1201 and 1202) for native and non-native speakers, Writing Workshop in Creative Non-Fiction, Advanced Composition, and the Signature I course, CORE 1101 Journey of Transformation.
My research interests include second language writing concerns, Directed Self-Placement for generation 1.5 immigrant students, new directions in writing for multilingual speakers, Essay as a genre, Creative Non-Fiction, and critical thinking in the writing class. My forthcoming publications are:
