Profile

Monsignor James Cafone is minister to the Priest Community and a member of the Department of Religious Studies.

Monsignor James (Jim) Cafone has served on numerous University committees, including the Educational Policy Committee, at Seton hall University over the past 38 years. He was a long-standing member of the Personnel Committee in the Department of Religious Studies. He has served on many Archdiocesan committees, including the Presbyteral Relations Council for Seton Hall and the Priest Personnel Policy Committee. He currently serves on the Human Relations Council for Seton Hall and is the Chaplain of the Seton Hall Alumni Association. Monsignor Cafone currently serves as Vice Chair of Seton Hall's Board of Trustees and is a member of the Seton Hall Board of Regents.

For many years he taught more students than any other teacher at the University. His courses continue to be over-subscribed. Monsignor Cafone has received the Administrative Merit Award for Extraordinary Service to Seton Hall University and the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Seminary. Long-time member of the Editorial Board for the Catholic Advocate, he has written numerous editorials and given many adult education courses in various parishes in the Archidiocese of Newark and the Diocese of Metuchen. He frequently preaches Lenten series, etc. and has served as weekend assistant to many local parishes currently serving in this capacity at Our Lady of Sorrows parish in South Orange and St. Anne's parish in Raritan. He is a sacramental minister for the Office of Campus Ministry and assists students with advice and counsel.

Monsignor Cafone earned a M.A. in Educational Administration and Supervision from Seton Hall University and the doctorate (S.T.D.) in Moral and Spiritual Theology from the Catholic University of America. His dissertation topic was The Role of the Holy Spirit in the Theology of Charles Grandison Finney.
