Dr. Henry J. Amoroso is an Associate Professor in the Department of Legal Studies at Seton Hall University. He is also the inaugural Director of the Micah Institute for Business Ethics and Economic Justice, which seeks to engage and support the development of business school faculty and assist them with incorporating consideration of ethical behaviors and decision making into the curricula of business school courses, all within the context of the Catholic Social Tradition and the Catholic mission of Seton Hall.
Dr. Amoroso teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in the legal environment of business, ethics, and public policy. He has introduced several innovations into his courses, including establishing “corporate boards” of outside professionals to evaluate student-client work. In his classes, Dr. Amoroso makes a special effort to incorporate current issues in order to demonstrate to students the relevance of their work. For example, in his “Law Ethics and Public Policy” course, exam questions focused on the ethics of four environmental issues in the context of Hurricane Sandy and the corresponding Jersey Shore restoration. Dr. Amoroso regularly prepares unique ethics-oriented case studies for his “Social Responsibility” course, most recently including the Ford Motor Company, GE, and Campbell Soup.
Dr. Amoroso’s research interests center on the contributions of business experience to the scholarship and practice of teaching, as well as the incorporation of the Catholic Social Tradition into business pedagogy. His research—which includes a co-authored textbook, the Legal Environment of Business—has appeared in outlets such as the Campbell Law Review, the Journal of the Partners in Learning, Business and Public Affairs, the International Journal of Learning and Development, and the Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel.
