Formation concerns the continuing conversion of heart, mind and soul in a man that will enable him to carry on an effective ministry, in service of God and His people, in the ordained priesthood of Jesus Christ.
The Priestly Formation Program is centered around the Four Pillars of
Priestly Formation. Formation is developed through four aspects: human,
spiritual, intellectual and pastoral. Each seminarian is formed and
prepared for the priesthood via coursework and study, field education,
spiritual direction, retreats, workshops and living in community with
one another. The program fulfills all the requirements of the U.S.
Conference of Catholic Bishops' Program of Priestly Formation
(Fifth Edition, 2005). Students meeting the requirements of this program
automatically fulfill the requirements of the M.Div. program.
The 126-138-credit Academic Program for Priesthood Candidates is the prescribed curriculum at ICSST for all seminarians seeking ordination to the Roman Catholic priesthood.
Seminarians studying for the priesthood must fulfill the requirements for the Master of Divinity program. In addition to coursework, they must attend retreats, workshops, lectures and other formation events throughout the year. For more information on these formation events, view the Formation Program brochure.
The highly respected faculty of Immaculate Conception Seminary School of Theology is one of the largest of all the schools of theology in the United States. With hearts and minds committed to serving the Catholic Church, our professors -including priests, deacons, religious, and lay men and women -are national and international leaders who provide scholarly expertise and clarity on ethical and religious issues of our day. Leading authorities in their respective fields, our professors are in demand as lecturers, consultants, and commentators. Award-winning and acclaimed authors, they have published dozens of books and hundreds of articles, and have delivered thousands of presentations. They share their love of their faith with their students, encouraging them to learn and live the riches of Catholicism, as they journey closer to Christ and His Church. Ultimately, the professors seek to introduce the students to the Divine Teacher who is "the reason for this school. He is the unseen but ever present teacher in its classes. He is the model of its faculty and inspiration of its students." (Author Unknown).
