Curriculum

For the first year, residents attend a four-month internal medicine rotation at the Trinitas Williamson Street Campus, the Medical Campus.  They will attend a two-month neurology at the JFK Hospital in Edison, New Jersey. The other six months, residents are to be exposed to psychiatry on the following:

For PGY 1:
Departmental Grand Rounds, Critical Review of Literature and Journal Club,
Psychopathology DSM IV/Basic, Introduction to Psychopharmacology, Emergency Psychiatry, Consultation / Liaison Psychiatry, Trans-Cultural Issues, Ethics, Physical Exam in Inpatient Psychiatry, Skilled Assessments of Patients, and Insomnia and its treatment.

For PGY 2:
Departmental Grand Rounds; Critical Review of Literature and Journal Club;
Neurobiology of Psychiatric Disorders; Informatics: Information Technology Related to Psychiatry; Managed Care Health Delivery Systems and Community Psychiatry; Behavior and Cognitive Therapies; Interpersonal Therapy; Psychodynamic Therapy; Group and Family Therapies; Brief Psychodynamic Therapy; Child Development; Overview of Clinical Neurology; and Major Psychiatric Syndromes, including Substance Abuse and Geriatric Psychiatry.

For PGY 3:
Departmental Grand Rounds, Critical Review of Literature and Journal Club, Child and Adolescent Psychopathology and Treatment, Forensic Psychiatry, History Of Psychiatry, Research, Sexual Disorders and Hypnotherapy (Overview of History, Technique and Indications for Hypnotherapy).

For PGY 4:
Departmental Grand Rounds, Critical Review of Literature and Journal Club, Research, E.C.T. (Overview, History, Technique and Indications for E.C.T.), Advanced Psychopharmacology, Practice and Career Issues (Overview of Relevant Issues to the Practicing Psychiatrist), and Psychological and Neuropsychological Testing.
