Admission Requirements & Prerequisites

  1. What is your application deadline?
    The deadline to apply for Fall is January 15.

  2. Do you have rolling admissions?
    No, all applications will be reviewed after the deadline.

  3. How do I submit my application?
    You must apply online. The link to the application is found on our website. After you submit your application, you will receive a confirmation email which contains links and instructions for submitting the supplemental materials, which include our electronic Recommendation form, Observation Hours Confirmation form, Essential Functions form and Prerequisite Grade form. All supplemental forms should be sent to:

  4. Can I just get letters for my recommendations or must I use your standard form?
    You must use our standard form, which provides us with a way to evaluate recommendations according to a standard set of criteria. You will not be able to access the electronic recommendation letter information until your application to the program has been submitted. Recommendations are submitted electronically, and instructions are found in the confirmation email you receive once you apply to the program.

  5. Where can I find your admission requirements?
    Our website lists all of our admission requirements.

  6. Does it matter what field my bachelor’s degree is in?
    No, your degree can be in any field as long as it is from an accredited institution.

  7. Do you require the GRE?
    No.

  8. Do you accept prerequisites taken at community colleges?
    Yes, we accept prerequisites from any accredited institution.

  9. Do you accept online prerequisite courses?
    Yes, provided they are taken at an accredited institution. Please discuss anatomy and physiology online courses with the admissions committee or department secretary prior to registering for those courses. Online courses for these prerequisites must have an adequate lab component in order to be accepted.

  10. How can I be sure if all my prerequisites will be accepted?
    If you have specific questions about your prerequisite courses, please contact the department secretary at (973) 761-7145.

  11. My prerequisites are over ten years old. Will my application still be considered?
    We will determine on an individual basis if any courses over ten years old can be accepted. In general, grades of less than a “B” in a prerequiste course that is over 10 years old will not considered. Please contact the department secretary.

  12. If my overall GPA is below a 3.0 will my application still be considered?
    Due to the high number of qualified applications we receive, we will not accept an overall GPA or prerequisite GPA that is below a 3.0.

  13. Do you conduct interviews?
    We reserve the right to conduct interviews for applicants.

  14. Where should I do my observation hours?
    You can complete your observation hours at any location that employs an occupational therapist. This includes rehabilitation facilities, hospitals, clinics, geriatric and pediatric facilities and school systems. You can complete all your hours at one site, or observe at multiple sites for a more varied experience. In general, you will obtain a clearer picture of the scope of occupational therapy practice if you volunteer in more than one setting.

  15. How many applications do you get and how many do you accept?
    We receive a high number of qualified applications. We can accommodate an incoming class size of between 30-35 students, which includes students coming in from the Seton Hall University dual degree program.

Tuition & Cost

  1. What is the tuition for the program?
    Tuition is charged per credit and the program requires completion of a total of 83 credits. Current graduate tuition and fees are found on the website.

  2. When should I start filling out a financial aid application?
    As soon as you decide to apply to Seton Hall, you should start the financial aid process. For specific questions related to financial aid please visit our financial aid website.

  3. Does Seton Hall offer scholarships or other financial assistance for OT students?
    Although the school does not offer scholarships, there are some external scholarships you can search for on the internet. Once you are accepted to a program, you can visit the student job database for available jobs. Several Graduate Assistant and Teaching Assistant positions are available within our department starting in the second year of the program.

Curriculum & Credits

  1. How long is the OT program?
    The program is a total of three years, which consists of six semesters of classroom work, two full semesters of clinical fieldwork, and various other fieldwork experiences throughout the curriculum.

  2. Can I schedule my classes according to what works best for me?
    No, all of our schedules are fixed. Classes are generally held Monday-Friday during the day, with some classes in the evening. Schedules vary by semester and by year.

  3. Do you offer a part time or weekend/evening program?

  4. Do you have a post-professional program?
    No. For a list of schools that do offer post-professional programs visit the website of the American Occupational Therapy Association.

  5. Do you offer any part of your program online?
    No. Currently all of our classes are held on campus, except for fieldwork.

  6. Do you offer a COTA program?
    No. For a list of COTA programs, visit the website of the American Occupational Therapy Association.

  7. Do you have classes during the summer?
    Summer semester usually starts in May and continues through the middle of July.

Other

  1. Does Seton Hall provide housing for graduate students?
    No, but there are off-campus apartments and houses for rent in the area. Current students are the best source of information about available off-campus housing.

  2. What makes Seton Hall University’s OT program unique?
    Our program is distinguished by several factors, including an integration of theory with application of skills, and a focus on knowledge of and sensitivity to culturally diverse populations. We are in a prime location which allows exposure to diverse and challenging OT practice settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation centers, public and specialty schools and private practices in the New Jersey and New York metropolitan area, as well as out of state. Also, while most programs provide only two fieldwork experiences, Seton Hall University’s program provides experiences nearly every semester, equivalent to approximately nine months of full-time clinical work.

  3. What is the job outlook like for OTs?
    Currently there is a strong demand for occupational therapists. Many of our students have job offers before they graduate.

Dual Degree

  1. How do I apply to your dual degree program?
    You must apply through the undergraduate admissions office. You can learn more about the dual degree program and apply through the dual degree website.

  2. If accepted in the dual degree program, am I guaranteed a seat in the professional program?
    As long as you complete all of the requirements and maintain the required GPA of 3.0, you are guaranteed admission into the final three years of professional studies.
