The Department of Occupational Therapy is the oldest entry-level masters program in the state of New Jersey. The M.S. in Occupational Therapy Program in the School of Health and Medical Sciences is a professional program that prepares our graduates to enter the field as competent general practitioners with a strong commitment to the health and well-being of the clients they serve.
Seton Hall's occupational therapy students are prepared to be leaders in their profession and builders of community in a global society. They are challenged by outstanding faculty, an evolving technologically advanced setting, and a values-centered curriculum that demands reflection and critical thinking and provides innovative opportunities for experiential learning. The Program's mission is to graduate qualified entry-level occupational therapists who provide ethical, supportive, and effective care to those they serve.
The faculty and administration of the Program dedicate themselves to carrying out the commitments of Seton Hall University in the field of Occupational Therapy, in healthcare, and educational settings. These commitments foster excellence in teaching, fieldwork education, research and practice; the development of innovative opportunities and environments for professional education and service; the formation of servant leaders among our students and graduates; and the building of community and collegial relationships among occupational therapy practitioners. These commitments likewise prepare the faculty to anticipate and respond to changes and developments in higher education, healthcare, and the wider local and global society through innovative curricular development and related programming.
The Department's location within a Catholic University signals its distinct commitment to servant leadership and ethical and moral conduct. The Department of Occupational Therapy shares in the mission of Seton Hall University to form students as servant leaders for today's world. Servant leaders are instilled with a spirit of service to individuals and groups and to the common good (the benefit of everyone) and have developed the skills and traits needed for leadership and the exercise of a sense of social responsibility both locally and globally.
The Department of Occupational Therapy carries out this mission to its students by providing them with a number of opportunities for formation, including rich and varied clinical experiences, participation and leadership in the Student Occupational Therapy Association; designing, implementing, and leading group experiences in local communities devoted to the promotion of health and wellness, and developing capstone projects to address the health, wellness, and participation needs of underserved populations.
