The M.A. in Special Education with a concentration in Autism Studies program has been designed and developed for New Jersey teachers who hold an initial certification in another teaching specialty. The major area of the program includes initial New Jersey certification as a Teacher of Students with Disabilities for certified elementary and secondary teachers. Because of the need for general education teachers to be dually certified in general and special education, Seton Hall's MA in Special Education adheres to the New Jersey state law that requires the development of recommendations on awareness of and instructional methods for teaching children with special needs, autism and other developmental disabilities.

The Special Education Program is a 36-credit program that yields a Master of Arts degree. Students are required to take 21 credits to receive their Teacher of Students with Disabilities Endorsement and 15 credits in the concentration of Autism Studies. If you are a general education teacher or a special education teacher co-teaching within an inclusive class, you are serving students with a variety of special needs, including students with autism. This M.A. degree fulfills the learning requirements for both students with special education needs including students with autism. Both groups of students require different learning strategies and this M.A. will offer the candidate the necessary tools to meet their needs.
