Expand your horizons to include the wonders of childhood and the multitude of teaching opportunities for which you can prepare while attending Seton Hall University’s College of Education and Human Services. Our programs offer students knowledge and understanding in the foundations of education that enhance professional preparation for the 21st century.

The Educational Studies Department consists of undergraduate teacher preparation programs in early childhood, elementary education, and special education as well as secondary education. New Jersey law requires subject area specialization, therefore, all of our education candidates also have a major from Arts and Sciences. Our education programs, and the related subject areas, have been nationally recognized by the following professional associations:

1. the Association of Childhood Education International (ACEI)
   
2. the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC)
   
3. the National Council of Teachers of English (NCTE)
   
4. the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM)
   
5. the National Council for the Social Studies (NCSS)
6. the National Science Teachers Association (NSTA)
   

At the graduate level, the department has programs in initial teaching certification, professional development for educators, instructional technology, and media specialist. National recognition has been awarded by the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) for the Educational Media and Instructional Design programs. The programs within Educational Studies, along with other educational leadership programs in the college and across the university, have been nationally accredited by NCATE (National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education).

Our faculty conduct internationally recognized research and innovative, technologically-enhanced instruction. Grounded in practical experience but exploring the frontiers of their disciplines, they are models of academic excellence.

The College of Education & Human Services strives to provide alternative paths to careers in education by offering a variety of graduate programs in instructional design for teachers and educational media to meet professional goals.  Students may acquire up to 15 graduate credits in the College of Education and Human Services based on experiences in an Alternate Route Provisional Teacher Program experience.   Learn more »
