Whitehead School of Diplomacy and International Relations

A Whitehead School Internship Feature

Internships are an integral component of the learning process at the Whitehead School. The Office of Internships and Career Development works closely with students to help them find prestigious internships tailored to their career goals. In addition, the School’s Board of Overseers, with members representing many of the fields of international relations, provides opportunities for our students by recommending them to their esteemed organizations. Our students strive to gain the real world experiences of internships both domestically and abroad. Amidst a highly competitive group of students pursuing internships from around the globe, the Whitehead School’s students received a record number of internships during the summer of 2010. More than half of the interns were placed in highly selective positions in Washington, D.C. and international locations. All of the Whitehead School’s summer 2010 interns received outstanding or very good ratings on their internship supervisor evaluations. In fact, ninety-two percent received outstanding ratings. Read on to get our students’ perspectives on their recent internship experience. These reflections represent a sample of the vast number of international relations internship experiences that Whitehead students obtain across a variety of sectors.
