The Board of Trustees of the Sister Rose Thering Endowment for Jewish-Christian and Holocaust Studies honored two Humanitarians at the 16th Annual Evening of Roses, its annual gala fundraiser, on Sunday, April 19, 2009 at 2 p.m. in Jubilee Hall Auditorium on Seton Hall University's campus.

The Endowment was privileged to honor 2009 Humanitarians, Maud Dahme and Irena Sendler (posthumously). Dahme is a hidden child of the Holocaust, former president of the New Jersey State Board of Education, and a distinguished resident of New Jersey. Sendler was a Nobel Peace Prize nominee who rescued more than 2,500 Jewish children from death in World War II Poland.

The New Jersey Commission on Holocaust Education also bestowed its “Sr. Rose Thering Award” on Dr. Harriet Sepinwall, an educator at the College of St. Elizabeth.

The featured speaker for the event was the Honorable Richard J. Codey, former governor and current New Jersey Senate President. Musical entertainment was provided by a Seton Hall student clarinet ensemble and the Aria Chorus #303 Polish Singers Alliance of America.
