Barkley Calkins, Director
Barkley Calkins is Director of NSRI.  Prior to coming to Seton Hall, Mr. Calkins:

  • Had a distinguished 25 year career with J. P. Morgan and Company in New York and London, during which he managed investment portfolios for individuals and institutions; provided financial analytical services for the bank and its corporate clients; and managed the bank's charitable contributions in the fields of international affairs and health care;
  • Provided management consulting services, primarily to nonprofit organizations and foundations; and 
  • Directed the New Jersey program for the National Executive Service Corps, a nonprofit consulting organization that uses experienced executives, primarily from the management ranks of business, to provide consulting services to other nonprofits.

A graduate of Amherst College, Mr. Calkins was a decorated Marine Corps officer and pilot. He has trained to become a hospital chaplain. A ruling elder in the Presbyterian Church USA, he currently serves as Chair of the Council of the Presbytery of the Palisades.  He is regularly involved in civic and volunteer activities.

Joe Perez, Program Assistant

Joe Perez is Program Assistant with NSRI and has been a volunteer since 2003. Mr. Perez holds a Master of Public Administration degree from Seton Hall University's Nonprofit Management Program and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Saint Edwards University in Austin, Texas with a major in International Relations. Mr. Perez has helped build capacity at various nonprofit organizations in New Jersey and has worked with the U.S. Coast Guard under the Department of Homeland Security.  During five years of commercial banking in Texas, Mr. Perez built the banks relationship with the large Hispanic population in their service area: in addition to promoting financial literacy, he assisted with providing loans and other capacity building services to small businesses.  Mr. Perez' passion for humanitarian causes continue to inspire him as servant leader.
