About the Center for Community Research and Engagement

The Center for Community Research and Engagement (CCRE) was created in 1997 to coordinate the activities of Seton Hall University as it implements service learning and community-based research on campus.

The mission of the Center for Community Research and Engagement is to develop partnerships that integrate Seton Hall University faculty, students, staff and our neighboring communities through applied research, active learning, and action projects, aimed at enhancing both the learning environment and community capacity.

Students

If you are a student at Seton Hall University, there are lots of opportunities for you to enhance your education experiences AND expand your resume.  Activities include service learning tutoring and mentoring programs, student fellowship opportunities, CCRE internships and experiential learning.  Read more »

Faculty

Faculty at Seton Hall can avail of CCRE assistance in incorporating service learning into their courses through our SHELLS program. Alternately, you can apply for a community-based research fellowship. If you are working in the University Core Curriculum, CCRE offers a number of stipends to incorporate service learning into your classrooms. Read more »

Community Partners

Community partners of CCRE can be nonprofit organizations (NPO) or schools that house after-school programming. NPO’s can apply multiple levels of assistance. These include partnering with trained undergraduate and graduate volunteers who will gain experience at your business, or applying for a project to be written by undergraduates that will be targeted at enhancing your operations. Schools can contact us to seek assistance with tutoring/mentoring programs that service your students. Read more »
