Foreign Study Opportunities

The major in Catholic Studies provides a broad liberal arts education exploring the interaction of Catholicism with various disciplines and cultures throughout the world. Students are therefore encouraged to consider international study opportunities both in partnership with other institutions and through programs offered by the Center for Catholic Studies. Catholic Studies regularly offers its own foreign study courses, e.g.: "Foundations of Christian Culture (Oxford)", "Italy in the Footsteps of the Saints", "The Emergence of Christian Rome", "The Roots of Catholic Ireland", "Latin American Catholicism", and "Catholicism in Poland." Students from other universities are welcome to apply for some courses, fostering a wider exchange of relationships and ideas.

Students may apply credits from SHU's Catholic Studies courses conducted as part of foreign travel and/or credits from overseas Catholic Studies programs conducted by other universities with prior approval of the Director. Through a special arrangement with the University of  St. Thomas in Minnesota, Catholic Studies students may participate in their semester-long Catholic Studies in Rome study abroad program for credit.
