Catholic Studies Club Mission

The mission of the Catholic Studies Club is to support the program of Catholic Studies at the university by intellectual, spiritual, social, and service activities.

The program of Catholic Studies at Seton Hall University and its purpose is to create a bridge between the study of Catholicism and all the other disciplines and professions taught at the university.  Thus, it seeks to link literature and faith, business and spirituality, nursing and religion.  Because Catholic faith recognizes a natural desire in all people for beauty, goodness, truth – all synonyms for God – the program in Catholic Studies seeks to explore all the ways in which this desire can be discerned in the various disciplines and professions.  In the words of the first-century martyr, Saint Justin, the program in Catholic Studies seeks to recognize “the seeds of God’s Word” scattered through the universe. 

CAST’s main priorities are to focus on the academic, spiritual, service, and social aspects of student life.

Long Beach Island Reunion
Join CAST current students and alumni for a weekend down the shore focused on finding peace amidst the busy semester through experiencing God’s presence in nature and reuniting with our friends.

Arcadia Coffeehouse Social
Come celebrate the publishing of our latest Arcadia!  Join us in the Pirate’s Cove from 6:00-9:00P.M. for poetry readings, excerpts from the Fall 2008 Arcadia, art displays, and more.  Refreshments will be served and all are invited!

“Hallowed History”
Spend All Saint’s Day touring Newark’s grand Victorian cemeteries, Holy Sepulchre and Mount Pleasant with Professor Thomas Rzeznik, historian and specialist in the history of the Catholic community.  The trip will conclude with a visit to the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, a spectacular French Gothic gem.  The group will meet in front of the Bishop Dougherty University Center at 10a.m.  Car transportation will be arranged.  For more information, please contact Professor Rzeznik at  rzeznith@shu.edu.
 
Night Prayer
Join fellow students and community priests in Night Prayer every Monday through Thursday at 10p.m. in Msgr. Liddy’s room on the 5th Floor of Xavier Hall.

Study Abroad in Oxford
June 29 – July 14, 2009
Earn three credits in Catholic Studies, History, or English in the heart of Oxford, England when you join the Center for Catholic Studies for our third Oxford-based Foundations of Christian Culture study abroad course.

May 26 - June 10, 2009
This three-credit course is cross listed by Catholic Studies, the History Department and the School of Theology.
