Classical Concert Series

The Classical Concert series presents world-class soloists and ensembles from around the globe. In the Series' first three seasons at the South Orange Performing Arts Center, featured artists included the great Leon Fleisher, and newcomer Simone Dinnerstein, pianists; The Brentano String Quartet and the Takacs String Quartet; Musicians from Marlboro and Camerata Nordica and others.
The Classical Concert Series blends education with artistry by offering preconcert lectures for many concerts. Lectures are open to students and the public free of charge. Lectures may be given by the artist or by a member of the University's Art and Music Department. In 2009-2010, Assistant Professor of Music History and former music critic for The Washington Post, Robert Waters, Ph.D. will return to SOPAC with three lectures.

Chamber Orchestra Kremlin October 29, 7:30 p.m.
Chamber Orchestra Kremlin has earned national and international recognition as one of Russia's leading ensembles. Founded in 1991, the orchestra, comprising some of Russia's finest young string players, has carved a niche for itself under the creative baton of its founder and music director Misha Rachlevsky. Special preconcert lecture by Mr. Rachlevsky at 6:30 p.m.

Jeremy Denk, Pianist January 21, 7:30 p.m.
American pianist Jeremy Denk has steadily established himself as one of the most versatile and compelling artists of his generation. The New York Times described his playing as "bracing, effortlessly virtuosic and utterly joyous." An avid chamber musician, he has collaborated with many of the world's finest string quartets and appeared at the Italian and American Spoleto Festivals, the Santa Fe and Seattle Chamber Music Festivals, and been part of Musicians from Marlboro national tours. Preconcert lecture at 6:30 p.m. |

The Daedalus String Quartet November 30, 7:30 p.m.
Just one year after founding the Quartet, its extraordinary young artists captured the Grand Prize of the 2001 Banff International String Quartet Competition. Acclaimed performances at the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), the Megaron (Athens), Symphony Hall (Birmingham) , and the Palais des Beaux Arts (Brussels) affirm this Quartet's international status. Preconcert lecture at 6:30 p.m.

Los Angeles Guitar Quartet April 8, 7:30 p.m.
Celebrating their twenty-seventh year on the concert stage, the members of the GRAMMY®-winning Los Angeles Guitar Quartet continue to set the standard for expression and virtuosity among guitar ensembles. They have established themselves as masters of the classics, as well as the creators of the unique syntheses of world-music and contemporary styles that have made the "LAGQ-sound" a favorite around the world.
