Spring 2010

  • January 20: La Motta Chair Lecture by Paul Grendler: "Italian Renaissance Universities, " honoring Msgr. Robert Sheeran.
  • February 8: Screening of a documentary on the life of World War II hero John Basilone.
  • March 24: Book-signing and presentation of Valerio Massimo Manfredi's latest book: The Ides of March.

Fall 2010

  • September 22:    La Motta Symposium: Machiavelli in England. William Connell (Seton Hall University), Alessandra Petrina (University of Padua) and Alessandro Arienzo (University of Naples) discuss the special significance of the writings of Niccolo Machiavelli for the development of English culture in the 16th and 17th centuries.  
  • September 27:    Italian Studies Scholarship Event and Lecture. Keynote Speaker: Joseph Luzzi (Bard College): “Literature and Economics: The Curious Case of Italy.”
  • October 6:   Gallery Exhibit: “From Italy to America: Faces of Italian Immigrants/Italian-Americans”
  • October 19:  Film: Pane Amaro. Q&A with Director, Gianfranco Norelli
  • October 25:  Documentary: Inside Buffalo. Q&A with Director,  Fred Kuwornu (At Seton Hall Law School in Newark)
  • October 27:   La Motta Lecture: “Machiavelli’s God”. Book signing and presentation by Maurizio Viroli (Princeton University)

The Alberto Institute is located on the third floor of the Walsh Library. The University Libraries have notable resources, including extensive holdings of almost 700,000 book volumes, and 1,127 current periodical subscriptions, back-files of more than 6,500 serial textiles, electronic access to full text articles in more than 25,000 journals, a broad selection of indexing and abstracting services in both digital and print formats, various microform collections, music CDs, and audiovisual aids.
